During 2011 I was the sole front-end engineer (behind the CTO) on an ambitious social game called vCruise, for a company called Narvalous. It incorporated synchronous virtual-world interactions via chat and avatar emotes. I also worked on an extensible quest system involving NPC avatars, events, and other features. We also built a theme-ready vector UI, so VIP players could purchase differnet skins.

Players could fully customize both their avatars, their ships and the rooms within. There were hundreds of clothing and accessory items available for purchase, and thousands of furniture items that players could use to decorate and differentiate their virtual boats.

The game is still available on Facebook at the time of this writing. It was a pleasure to work with some of the most talented and productive artists in the industry on this project. Jon Thoms (CTO) and I built GUIs for customizing the game environments. We also ensured that game content, such as quests, was easy to modify and iterate on via spreadsheets, maintaining a layer of abstraction between the code.
